Think of a flashlight in a dark room: there’s a bright circle in the middle, and a dimmer ring fading out around it. Beam Angle is the bright core. Field Angle is the full spread, fade-out included. Most fixture spec sheets list one or both — enter whichever you’ve got.
How to use this
- Look up your fixture’s beam angle (and field angle, if listed) on its spec sheet or the label on the fixture itself.
- Measure or estimate the throw distance — straight-line distance from the fixture to the surface it’s lighting.
- Read the diameters above, or check the reference table for a few common distances at once.
