Series adds impedances together — wiring gets easier on the amp, harder on your ears if one speaker fails (it can break the whole chain). Parallel divides impedance down — easier to keep every speaker playing independently, but the total load drops fast, and most amplifiers have a minimum impedance they can safely drive.
